Fight for art
Pull off your skin and fight for art
Lick, slurp, bite, hunger, lust & devour
Like a tongue thrust out for a raindrop
Or a fleeting piece of snow
Fight for the pulpy beating hearts
Of the old artists and the young
For their paper & grit, the clay & the ink
Fight for the deafening roar of humanity
Over the dull hum of this machine.
This is who you are
Wild like a stallion
Shaped by years of wayward trainers and clumsy handlers
Raised by the whips of misdirection
Chomping at the bit
For your own field of freedom
Until one day you wake in it
Pulse steady, muscles poised
Leaning into the power of your unbroken stride
Rearing yourself up to the sun
Let go of those who have hurt you
Let them go, let them go, let them go
When your mind brings them back
To break your heart
Let go of them again
Healing comes from within
From a smooth polished stone
Deep in the hollow of your worn out bones
Look for no chaos
Harbor no pride
Heal from within and let go.
If art imitates life let me show you
We are sunlight, we are nature, we are love.
Remember Yourself
Write a letter to yourself
Let it be for the world to read
Remember your roots
And their direct line to your beating heart
The lands you have crossed
The rivers you have swum through
Remember rising up, dripping wet
Softened feet strengthening with every new step
Remember the feeling of grit in your teeth
Remember the taste of your name.
Self love
When I was young and beautiful I did not know I was young and beautiful
Now I am old and beautiful
And I know because my future self tells me so
Everything is circular
And from my circle I speak the truth
I love you, I love you, I do.
You are more than this moment
They are pinning you to
Your wings grow
Under stapled bones
And though you do not know it now
You will fly higher to the sky than anyone can measure
Untouchable by lost voices
Unstoppable by today
Sing because you exist
Sing to feel yourself thrive
Sing because this land is empty
And your voice will bring it to life.
Strength
Stand back up
Over tree root and rock
Over foreign tongue and sideways glances
Over the knife you carved your name upon
Shoulders up, shoulders back, shoulders down
Stand back up and shine.
Don’t be afraid
Fear is a machine that feeds from itself
Reverse back
A gentle footstep
Unclasp your hands, palms open.
Walk forward by the light from within.
Journey
A fringe of heavy foliage
Vines alive, encircling
The shrinking of the sun
You have to go through who you are
To get to who you can be
Wild and steady and free.
Follow
Cleanse sadness with water
Ease tension with sun
A recalibration of vibrancy
Follow the one who finds god in nature
Where one is all and all is one.
Upon waking I cannot tell
If this quiet drum
Is my heart or my feet
I march on
Beauty asks for nothing
The quiet hum
A precipice
Fluttering under the skin
Sunlight on an ageless rock
Immersion into space
You are you and you are here.
Trust in the universe and trust in yourself.
