Who I Am

I am a watercolour portrait artist who is driven by the written word. When I was younger I was a poet. I didn’t know how to turn a love of words into a verifiable lifestyle. I didn’t have the guidance and I didn’t know the right questions to ask. I also worried that if I threw myself one hundred percent into my writing I would lose touch with reality, isolate myself, and inch over to the edge of madness. I turned instead to painting which somehow felt more safe and manageable. Now, fast forward through years of being a visual artist, my words are finally winding back to me and residing in my portraits. Sometimes I feel a little exposed sharing my thoughts but the response that I get when somebody really resonates with what is written on one of my paintings is beyond description. That deep human connection. A complete understanding that is the very opposite of isolation. The unity of us all. It’s here. It’s in my words and in my art and within the viewer…And it’s exactly where I want to be.
